Inglis to lead Australia in ODI series against Pakistan after Marsh ankle jury

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Josh Inglis has replaced injured Mitchell Marsh as Australian captain for a series of three one-day internationals in Pakistan, Cricket Australia said Tuesday.

Marsh injured his ankle while playing in the Indian Premier League and has returned to Australia after missing Lucknow Super Giants’ last game. He will undergo further assessment and treatment in Perth.

Australia’s regular 50-over skipper Pat Cummins and vice-captain Travis Head are already absent from the ODI series, beginning in Rawalpindi on Saturday, because of IPL commitments.

Lahore will host the remaining two ODIs on June 2 and 4.

Wicketkeeper-batter Inglis led Australia in November 2024, also against Pakistan, when many first-choice players were absent.

Australia will go on a white-ball tour of Bangladesh after playing in Pakistan. Pace spearheads Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc will miss both tours.

Italy U21 forward Cristian Volpato switching nationality to Australia ahead of World Cup

SYDNEY (AP) — Italy Under-21 forward Cristian Volpato is changing national eligibility to Australia ahead of the World Cup, four years after he declined an invitation ahead of the 2022 tournament. Football Australia said Friday the Sydney-born Volpato has been added to the Socceroos' training camp in Los Angeles, before its squad is finalized by Monday. The 22-year-old Sassuolo player is eligible to make the switch under FIFA rules because he never played a competitive game for the senior Italy team. The Australian soccer body said it “received a release letter from the Italian Football Federation” — a key step for FIFA to approve switching national eligibility.
