Where’s Robert Levinson? Former FBI agent missing 12 years in Iran

March 10 marks the 71st birthday of former FBI agent Robert Levinson, who has been missing since he vanished on the Iranian Island of Kish in 2007.

The 22-year veteran of the FBI had also worked six years for the Drug Enforcement Agency and was working on a CIA operation when he disappeared on March 9, 2007.

The Iranian government denies knowing what happened to Levinson.

“We think that it’s very important that the U.S. government and the international community increase their efforts to gain his release,” said Tom O’Connor, president of the FBI Agents Association. “We urge the U.S. government and the international community to press Iran for information on Bob Levinson’s abduction,” he said.

The FBI continues to lead the investigation into Levinson’s disappearance and is offering a $5 million reward for his safe recovery.

“That is something that we hope will trigger somebody, 12 years later, to come forward and give information that will help the FBI,” O’Connor said.

A moderate earthquake shakes northeast Japan, injuring more than 20 people in the Tokyo region

TOKYO (AP) — A moderate earthquake rattled eastern Japan, including the Tokyo area, early Sunday, injuring more than 20 people, most of them lightly, officials said. There was no danger of a tsunami. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.9 and its epicenter was in the southern Ibaraki prefecture with a depth of 70 kilometers (42 miles). The U.S. Geological Survey recorded a magnitude of 5.8. Twenty-three people were injured in four prefectures in the region — nine in Saitama, another nine in Kanagawa, four in Chiba and one in Ibaraki — according to prefectural officials. Most of the injured were hurt when they fell down or hit themselves against furniture or doors as they were caught off guard by the quake while sleeping and got out of bed in a panic, officials said. Among them was a woman in her 80s who fell off the bed and suffered a serious hip injury in Yokohama, in the Kanagawa prefecture, the Yomiuri newspaper reported.
