Giants place OF Jung Hoo Lee on IL with back injury and call up prospect Victor Bericoto

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with a mid-back strain.

Lee, who moved from center fielder to right field this season when the Giants signed Harrison Bader, had missed the previous two games — Tuesday and Wednesday — at Arizona with back spasms after exiting Monday’s series opener against the Diamondbacks when he felt something in his back during his second at-bat.

The roster spot was filled by prized outfield prospect Victor Bericoto, who was selected from Triple-A Sacramento to join a major league roster for the first time after seven years in the minors.

The move of Lee to the IL was announced after manager Tony Vitello spoke to reporters pregame. He said the outfielder was still being examined.

Lee is batting .268 with three homers and 17 RBIs in 48 games.
