Brian White scores 2 goals, Whitecaps beat Dallas 5-0

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Brian White scored two first-half goals, Edier Ocampo added a goal and an assist, and the Vancouver Whitecaps beat FC Dallas 5-0 on Saturday night.

The Whitecaps (12-4-4) lead the Western Conference with 40 points, two more than second-place Houston.

Dallas (9-6-6), which had won back-to-back games, had its three-game unbeaten streak snapped.

Emmanuel Sabbi scored in the 11th minute to give Vancouver a 1-0 lead and Bruno Caicedo capped the scoring in the 68th.

Yohei Takaoka had one save for the Whitecaps.

White added goals in the 23rd and 37th minutes before Ocampo headed home a ball-ahead played by Andres Cubas to make it 4-0 in first-half stoppage time.

White has 12 goals in 18 appearances this season.

Dallas had just 39% possession.

Jonathan Sirois stopped three shots for Dallas.

Vancouver beat Dallas 3-2 on May 13.

Skubal shakes off 3-run first inning, then settles in to dominate for his 1st win as a Dodger

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Tarik Skubal started out shaky, putting the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 3-0 hole in the first inning. Then, the two-time Cy Young Award winner dug in to flash the stuff that made him baseball's prize acquisition at the trade deadline. Skubal struck out 11 — one off his season best — to earn his first win since joining the two-time defending World Series champions, 4-3 over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday night. "That's the guy that we needed. Completing seven innings, reset the bullpen, great outing,” manager Dave Roberts said. "He’s very physical, and you can see that when he needs to reach back for more, it’s in there.” Skubal was 0-2 with a 3.18 ERA in his first three starts with the Dodgers, who acquired him in a blockbuster deal with the Detroit Tigers earlier this month.
