Three people were taken to the hospital, including the driver of a vehicle who crashed into several others in Montgomery County, Maryland, officials said. It happened on New Hampshire Avenue on Thursday afternoon in Silver Spring. According to preliminary information, a man driving a Mitsubishi sedan traveling northbound on New Hampshire Avenue crashed into a vehicle and fled. The driver kept going northbound and then struck a Metrobus, a pickup truck that overturned due to the impact, and then finally, at Briggs Chaney Road, a Montgomery County school bus. There were no students on the bus. The Metrobus driver and the school bus driver were taken to the hospital and have injuries that are not life-threatening. The driver of the Mitsubishi has life-threatening injuries, WTOP’s Mike Murillo reported from the scene. Montgomery County Police said the driver was taken to a separate hospital in critical condition.
The southbound lanes of New Hampshire Avenue were closed as police investigated the scene thoroughly. It reopened after 8:30 p.m. “Something like this is unacceptable,” Montgomery County police spokesman Carlos Cortes said. Below is the area where it happened.
