This confederate statue, erected in 1908, stands in front of the Leesburg courthouse to honor confederate soldiers of Loudoun County on Thursday, November 16, 2017, in Leesburg, VA. Although some have called for the monument's removal, it is protected by a Virginia statute that prohibits local authorities or individuals from removing, damaging, or defacing an established war memorial.
