More details on the RFK campus pop-up drive-in theater

Tickets are set to go on sale July 8 for film showings at the planned pop-up drive-in movie theater coming to the RFK Stadium campus.

The team behind Broccoli City is spearheading the drive-in effort, which is slated to show its first film in second or third week of July.

Customers should expect to pay roughly the same price or less as a regular movie ticket. A wide range of movies will be available, from the Marvel and Pixar universes to classics such as “The Goonies” and “Jurassic Park,” said Broccoli City partner Brandon McEachern. At max capacity, he said they should be able to fit at least 200 cars.

Broccoli City, which hosts an annual music festival in the District, will manage the drive-in theater, which entails setting up the screens and lighting on the campus grounds. The group said in June that it would cancel this year’s festival, which was scheduled for October

McEachern declined to disclose how much it would cost to set up the theater.

WTOP rides shotgun at 140 mph on DC’s Freedom 250 Grand Prix course

Less than 24 hours before the first checkered flag waves at the Freedom 250 Grand Prix in D.C., drivers got a chance Friday to put the 1.7-mile street course through its paces. WTOP got to ride shotgun in a 670-horsepower Chevrolet Corvette Z06, reaching about 140 mph on the streets surrounding the National Mall. Behind the wheel was Ken Morris, General Motors' senior vice president of product programs, product safety and motor sports. “Oh, inspiring!” Morris said after the run. “D.C. is such a phenomenal place. I'm starstruck by it every time I'm here and to be able to have a track in the middle of it is fantastic.”
