Police: DC man charged with assaulting police officer

WASHINGTON — A D.C. man was arrested Sunday and charged with assaulting a police officer while armed. Officers responded to a report of a burglary and domestic dispute around the 800 block of 8th Street around 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Police saw 34-year-old Kevin Talley, of Northeast D.C., waving a BB gun on the street. Police say they told Talley several times to drop the weapon. Talley pointed the BB gun at the officers. Police shot him, and Talley was transported to the hospital with critical injuries. No pedestrians or officers were injured during Saturday’s incident. This is an ongoing investigation. The two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, as is customary for police-involved shootings during investigations, according to police. The footage from the officers’ body cameras is under review.

‘My concerns are more for our service members’: Former Stars and Stripes editor on his and other firings

Former Stars and Stripe's Editor-in-Chief Eric Slavin speaks to WTOP's Ralph Fox. One of the Stars and Stripes staffers fired by the Pentagon said changes at the military newspaper could threaten its ability to cover news important to U.S. service members and their families. Eric Slavin, the newspaper’s editor-in-chief, was fired Friday. Stars and Stripes publisher Max Lederer and Middle East reporter Lara Korte also lost their jobs. "It was quite a shock," Slavin told WTOP's Ralph Fox. "It's not what I expected when I woke up on Friday, but really concerns are more for our service members and our families and what may lay ahead."
