[related_gallery align=”right”]Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld did well in the D.C. real estate market, just not as well as he’d hoped.
Rumsfeld’s former Kalorama home has sold for $3.9 million, less than the $4.495 million it was originally listed for by Washington Fine Properties in July 2014. The selling price is still $600,000 more than the limited liability corporation controlled by Rumsfeld paid for the property.
The seven-bedroom home sits on Kalorama Road across the street from the French Ambassador’s residence near Connecticut Avenue NW.
Kalorama LLC, the corporation listed as its owner, bought the home in February 2001 for $3.3 million, according to the D.C. Office of Tax Revenue.
Washington Fine Properties, and the buyer’s agent, TTR Sotheby’s International Realty, both declined to comment on the buyer. The transaction had not yet been posted on the Recorder of Deeds’ website as of Friday afternoon.
Rumsfeld served as President George W. Bush’s defense secretary from January 2001 to December 2006.
