Arlington County hits record not reached since 1940

Hank Silverberg, wtop.com

ARLINGTON, Va – It’s a notable milestone. Arlington county has now gone two consecutive years without a homicide.

That is the first time that has happened since the county police department was formed in 1940.

Arlington Police Chief Douglas Scott says effective policing made the difference.

“Reaching this mark is only possible through a combination of effective policing, excellent medical care, successful prosecution and cooperating communities” says Scott.

The last homicide in the county was March 14th, 2010 where a 20 year old victim was found dead on a sidewalk on North Pershing Drive.

A local resident was charged with that murder.
