MARC train hits vehicle in Prince George’s Co.

WASHINGTON — A MARC train struck a vehicle in the tracks in Prince George’s County, causing one injury and suspending service during the Friday evening rush hour.

A train struck a vehicle on the crossing in the 5700 block of Sunnyside Avenue at about 5:15 p.m., according to Prince George’s County Fire Department spokesman Mark Brady.

One person in the vehicle was injured, and is expected to be OK, Brady said. There were no injuries on the train.

The train pushed the car 80 feet forward along the tracks before it was able to stop, Brady said. The train remained upright and on the tracks, he added.

Service on MARC’s Camden Line was halted between Greenbelt and Muirkirk as a result of the crash. Service resumed less than an hour later.

WTOP’s Mike Murillo contributed to this report.
