Virginia beats Bucknell 10-1 in NCAA opener

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Artie Lewicki limited Bucknell to three hits in seven shutout innings, and Virginia had a seven-run sixth inning in its 10-1 victory Friday in the first game of the NCAA regional.

Lewicki (6-1) struck out five to help Virginia (45-13) move closer to advancing to its fifth super regional in six years. The Cavaliers will face Arkansas on Saturday, while Bucknell (30-20-1) will play Liberty in an elimination game.

Bucknell committed four errors and the Cavaliers cashed in with nine unearned runs. Bucknell starter Bryson Hough (8-4) gave up only one earned run in five innings.

In the sixth, a throwing error led to two runs, and Derek Fisher had a two-run single.

The Cavaliers’ Mike Papi and John La Prise each had three hits.
