Alexandria deputy charged with raping inmate

WASHINGTON — An Alexandria sheriff’s deputy is under arrest and charged with raping an inmate.

Police say Deputy Bryant Pegues was arrested early Tuesday morning at the William Truesdale Adult Detention Center and charged with rape and carnal knowledge of an inmate after an inmate told another deputy that Pegues had sexually assaulted her.

Pegues, 52, a seven-year veteran, was denied bond and is being transferred to the Arlington Detention Facility. He has been fired.
