CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — A company created by University of Virginia researchers plans to launch an operation in Danville that could create 127 jobs.

The Virginia Tobacco Commission approved a $2 million research and development grant for Fermata Energy LLC.

Fermata is developing vehicle-to-grid bidirectional chargers. The chargers will enable electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids to provide energy storage.

Commission interim director Tim Pfohl tells The Daily Progress (http://bit.ly/1kC55tc ) that Fernata plans to create manufacturing jobs in Danville, if the research is successful.
