Husband of Congresswoman Slaughter dies at 82

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Robert Slaughter, husband of longtime Rochester-area Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, has died at age 82.

The Democratic representative’s office posted a statement on her website saying Robert passed away Tuesday in Washington, D.C. A cause of death wasn’t provided.

Staff member Eric Walker told the Democrat and Chronicle that the medical examiner had not yet determined a cause of death.

The couple had been married for 57 years. They met in Texas while she worked for a chemicals manufacturer. After getting married, they moved to the Rochester suburb of Fairport, where they raised three daughters.

Louise Slaughter, a Kentucky native, was elected to Congress in 1987. Her husband retired as a legal administrator for Rochester-based Eastman Kodak.
