WASHINGTON — Changes that go in effect Sunday for more than 60 Metrobus lines could mean savings for some mass-transit users.

The biggest benefit will be free Metrorail rides for some Metrobus commuters.

Bus riders who transfer between the Addison Road and Capitol Heights Metro stations will be able to ride the Blue and Silver Line trains for free.

Metrobus Q Line riders will be able to save some money, as well.

Southbound Q Line riders will be able to transfer onto the Red Line at the Wheaton or Forest Glen Metro stations and ride the rails to Silver Spring for free.

Northbound riders between those three stations will see the same benefit, but they will be charged for the trip and be given a credit on their SmarTrip card.

Riders who travel beyond Silver Spring on the Red Line will be charged for the full rail trip without any discount.

Additional changes to Metrobus include the cancellation of some lines due to poor ridership, additional service at other locations, and tweaks to frequency and the location of buses on other lines.
