WASHINGTON — ESPN’s latest 30 for 30 Installment — all seven hours and 43 minutes of it — is a gripping tale that centers around arguably the biggest trial in a generation while examining how race and celebrity were such immense factor in the legal fate of O.J. Simpson.

“O.J.: Made in America” is a serial documentary that chronicles the rise of Simpson, from his upbringing in San Francisco, his journey to football stardom and his rise to one of the most loved celebrities off the field, to his eventual decline as a murder suspect.

The director of this 30 for 30, Ezra Edelman, spoke with WTOP about racial tension in Los Angeles and how it played a part in the trial, how O.J. was received amongst those closest to him, and what went into creating such an ambitious project.
