The stock market is opening mostly higher, a day after major indexes reached record levels.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 16 points, or 0.1 percent, to 16,711 as of 9:39 a.m. Eastern Time. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index nudged up one point to 1,898. The Nasdaq eased two points to 4,141.

DirecTV rose $1.64, or 2 percent, to $88.80 on reports that AT&T was close to completing a takeover of the company.

Elizabeth Arden tumbled $5.93, or 16 percent, to $29.70 after the beauty products company reported an unexpected quarterly loss and disclosed it has hired Goldman Sachs to help it.

The S&P 500 index finished at an all-time high of 1,896.65 on Monday. The Dow also reached a record high.

U.S. retail sales growth slowed in April.
