Heavy rain snarls traffic, prompts flood warnings

WASHINGTON – Heavy rains pounded the D.C. region Wednesday, snarling traffic and prompting flood warnings in Virginia and Maryland counties.

A WTOP listener gave a Facebook account of her difficult ride home.

“A lot of the roads I drive were semi-flooded. I had to crawl through several inches of water in five or six places,” said Jessica Whitewall. “It was hard to see the lines on the road as well.”

In Virginia, a crash blocked southbound lanes on Interstate 395 at King Street Wednesday night.

Elsewhere, two cars stalled on separate parts of Barnesville Road when drivers attempted to travel through high water.

No one was hurt.

Montgomery County Fire Chief Scott Graham reminded drivers to be careful when navigating the roads and warns motorists to not attempt to drive through standing water.

Temperatures overnight were expected to be between 48 and 52 degrees throughout the region.

The skies will clear on Thursday for a partly sunny day, breezy, with highs near 70.
