Guard Hubbs planning to remain at Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Robert Hubbs III will remain at Tennessee and won’t join teammates Darius Thompson and A.J. Davis in asking for a release from his scholarship.

Hubbs’ father, also named Robert Hubbs, said in a text message Thursday that the 6-foot-6 guard plans to stay at Tennessee.

Thompson, Davis and Hubbs were part of Tennessee’s three-man freshman class this past season. New Tennessee coach Donnie Tyndall said Monday that Davis and Thompson had asked for releases to “explore their options.” At the time, Hubbs’ father indicated his son was still deciding whether to remain at Tennessee.

Hubbs, a former five-star recruit, averaged 5.0 points and 1.5 rebounds in 12 games as a freshman. He underwent season-ending surgery on his left shoulder in January.
