Iowa Cubs P Rusin no-hits New Orleans

METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Iowa Cubs pitcher Chris Rusin threw a no-hitter in a 3-0 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old left-hander struck out three and walked two. He threw 118 pitches, the last inducing a shallow fly ball on which center fielder Matt Szczur charged in to make a diving catch.

Moments later, Cubs players raced from the dugout, the bull pen or their positions in the field to swarm around Rusin near the mound.

Only three New Orleans runners reached base, two on walks and one on a catcher’s interference call in the ninth inning.

Rusin has been back and forth between Iowa of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League and the National League’s Chicago Cubs since 2012. He’s pitched 101 innings in the majors.
