WASHINGTON — A train carrying 8,000 tons of coal skidded off its tracks in Prince George’s County early Thursday morning.
Several cars of a CSX train loaded with coal derailed near the Brady Building at Old Annapolis Road and Laurel Bowie Road in Bowie at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday. The three employees on the train were not injured.
Prince George’s County emergency responders reported to the scene and there were no immediate life safety concerns or hazardous materials requirements.
The three locomotives and 10 cars that had left the tracks were still upright and did not overturn, according to Prince George’s County Spokesperson Mark Brady. CSX officials will clean up the scene. Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department will monitor the scene through Thursday.
It is not yet clear what caused the train to derail.
