P. Diddy is Howard U’s commencement speaker

Rapper and record producer Sean “P.Diddy” Combs will deliver this year’s commencement address at Howard University.

Howard’s 146th commencement is scheduled for May 10.

Combs, whose businesses now include wine and spirits, clothing and movie production, was a Howard University student in the late-1980s, and will receive an honorary doctorate in humanities.

“We are honored to have Mr. Combs serve as our speaker,” said interim President Wayne A.I. Frederick. “His entrepreneurial spirit was sparked at Howard. We know he will inspire our class to work hard and to always strive for excellence.”

Combs is one of five people getting honorary degrees at Howard’s commencement this year.

Others are CNN reporter Wolf Blitzer, Howard University professor of surgery Dr. Clive Callender, jazz legend Benny Golson and PepsiCo Inc. chief executive Indra Nooyl.
