Volkswagen recalls e-Golfs for battery software problem

WASHINGTON — Volkswagen is recalling more than 5,000 e-Golf electric vehicles in the U.S. due to a battery software problem.

According to the data sheet sent to dealers, the issue lies with the diagnostics system.

Roadshow reports the system is overly sensitive, and it might treat a brief power surge as a “critical battery condition.” If that happens, the high-voltage system shuts down.

The recall includes 5,561 2015 and 2016 e-Golf electric vehicles sold in the U.S. since November 2014. The affected vehicles have a build date between May 21, 2014, and March 1, 2016.
