TSA: Man fined for loaded gun in carry-on at Reagan

ARLINGTON, Va. — A man with a loaded handgun and a 30-round magazine has been arrested at Reagan National Airport.

Stefon Powell of District Heights was stopped at a security checkpoint on Monday.

Analyzing the carry-on bag through the X-ray machine, a Transportation Security Administration officer noticed the weapon.

It turned out to be a Glock 22, .40 caliber with a round in the chamber and 28 rounds in a magazine, the TSA said .

Powell, 21, was arrested and charged with carrying a weapon in an airport.

He has been released on a $2,000 secured bond.

It’s unclear if Powell was aware of the weapon in his carry-on luggage.

The TSA reports an increase nationally in guns taken to airports. The agency recovered about 300 more guns in 2013 than the previous year.
