SpotHero helps D.C. drivers find guaranteed parking

WASHINGTON – D.C. and Baltimore are among a growing number of cities where a new app can help you find guaranteed parking.

The app, called SpotHero, lets you reserve parking spaces for a set time, sometimes at a discounted rate.

SpotHero Co-Founder and CEO Mark Lawrence explains how it works: “You input where you’re going. It will show all of the different parking options that are available, the different prices, and then you can input your credit card, purchase a reservation. You’ll have your parking reserved ahead of time.”

In the 2012 fiscal year, D.C. authorities issued 1.8 million parking tickets worth $92.5 million, according to records obtained by AAA Mid-Atlantic in 2013. Most of those tickets went to people who do not live in the District.

“If you parked in a garage, you wouldn’t have been issued a ticket because your car would not have been on the street,” Lawrence says.

Here in the Washington area, PMI, Atlantic and LAZ, in addition to Ronald Reagan Washington National and Dulles International airports and some major event venues, such as DAR Constitution Hall, the Kennedy Center and the Verizon Center.
