Va. pedestrian struck, killed by fire truck

WASHINGTON – A man was struck and killed by a fire truck responding to a call in Stafford County on Friday night.

The Stafford County Fire and Rescue Department says one of its trucks was responding to a call when it hit a man who was walking in Warrenton Road shortly before 9 p.m. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

The sheriff’s office says the driver tried to swerve, but couldn’t get out of the way in time. They add that the man was in a darkened section of the road, around the 500 block, and was not in a crosswalk.

They have not released the name of the pedestrian or the truck driver, and are continuing to investigate.
