The D.C. area’s newest pizza chain is planning to expand in the region almost as fast as it claims to bake its pies.

Dallas-based Pie Five Pizza Co. has a franchise agreement with Rockville-based ALC Hospitality to open 38 locations in Northern Virginia, suburban Maryland and the District. The first location will open next summer.

Pie Five Pizza distinguishes itself in the crowded pizza field by promising custom-made pizzas served to its customers in less than five minutes. It claims guests can choose from more than a million possible combinations.

Pie Five Pizza currently has 13 restaurant locations in Texas, two in Kansas, two in Utah and one in North Carolina.

It says an additional 150 franchise units are currently under contract.
