Southwest adds BWI-Sacramento flights

WASHINGTON — Local travelers are getting another nonstop flight to California — in this case, the only year-round service from the D.C. region to Sacramento.

Southwest Airlines will start the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport to Sacramento service Aug. 7. Sacramento is a new destination for BWI.

Southwest now accounts for 70 percent of air service at BWI — as many as 225 nonstop flights a day during peak summer travel season — and the airline continues to grow. It will start service from BWI to Minneapolis with twice daily flights in April.

It also has been adding international flights from BWI, announcing service last year to San Jose and Liberia, Costa Rica and Los Cabos, Mexico.

For the new Sacramento flights, Southwest is promising introductory fares as low as $159 each way.

Movie theaters are starting to reopen. Will anyone go?

For the first time in roughly five months, AMC Theatres will pop the popcorn, dim the lights, and start the show. But will anyone buy a ticket?
