Fairfax Co. schedules drug take-back for Saturday

WASHINGTON – Fairfax County will accept old, unneeded medications for safe disposal at local police stations Saturday.

Residents can dispose of their unused medicine between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Sully, Mason or Franconia district police stations.

The initiative is part of an effort by the Drug Enforcement Administration to keep medications out of land fills and sewer systems and to reduce the risk that prescription drugs would be abused or stolen.

Medications that sits forgotten in medicine cabinets are more likely to be misused, abused or sold.

The service is free, anonymous and confidential.

Locations of Saturday’s drop-off event are:

  • Sully station, 4900 Stonecroft Blvd., Chantilly
  • Mason station, 6507 Columbia Pike, Annandale
  • Franconia station, 6121 Franconia Road, Alexandria
