ROSSLYN – Where North Lynn Street and Fort Myer Drive meet, so do pedestrians and cars.

“It’s not safe. There’s no question about it,” says Arlington County Board chairman J. Walter Tejada.

The intersection is in downtown Rosslyn, where a new Metro entrance has opened, but ongoing construction limits pedestrian crossing.

County board member Mary Hughes Hynes says she’s experienced an unsafe feeling going through that intersection herself.

“The loss of the crosswalk and the walkway, which has been out for months, is really a significant problem,” Hynes says.

The county’s transportation staff is taking a look at the intersection to improve its safety.

For now, the board voted Saturday to amend the county code and lower the speed limit from 30 to 25 miles per hour on both Fort Myer Drive and North Lynn between Lee Highway and Arlington Boulevard.
