WASHINGTON – Long-distance runners and animal-lovers have lost a friend.
Boogie, the Labrador that crashed the Evansville Half-Marathon, has died.
WFIE, the NBC affiliate in Evansville, Ind., reports that Boogie’s owners posted on Facebook that the dog died of a heart attack Tuesday.
Boogie escaped a leash and ran most of the 13.1-mile race earlier this month. Boogie’s efforts earned the dog a medal, even though it hadn’t officially entered the race, and a trip to the veterinarian.
Boogie’s inspirational efforts and news of the dog’s death even caught the attention of the staff at Runner’s World magazine, who reported that it’s unclear whether the race contributed to Boogie’s heart attack.
