WASHINGTON – Tryouts at Nationals Park are taking place to pick the 2012 entertainment crew.

The crew, known as the “Nat Pack,” are athletic, high-energy young people who throw out T-shirts, rally fans and just have fun.

About 50 people showed up Saturday trying to win a spot on this elite, but fun team.

Anthony Tasker, from Wheaton, is hoping one of those spots will be his.

He say’s Nat Pack is “A group of young individiuals coming together trying to make the stadium to get hyped. They call them the hype men. I just call it, an entertainment crew.”

He’s not sure what his chances are, but says you just have to go out there and give it your best. He says, if selected, he’ll bring “a lot of laughter, a whole lot of laughter, so get ready.”

Tom Davis is the entertainment coordinator at Nats Park and will be picking the new team.

“We started the day with a half-mile run. We got the girls learning a dance routine, about a a 30-second dance routine. We’ve got the guys doing a kind of personality activity.”

Davis says only a few will get the call back for the second day of tryouts on Sunday.

The “Nat Pack” has been around since 2005, but 2008 was the first year auditions were held to get onto the team, which has about 20 members.
