Fairfax schools trends on Twitter

WASHINGTON – Displeasure with Fairfax County Public Schools’ decision to open school on time Tuesday lit up the Twittersphere.

So many people tweeted #closeFCPS that it was trending on Twitter.

Students tweeted about car wrecks, slippery sidewalks, buses that could not get off their streets, absent teachers and empty desks.

FCPS later apologized for its decision to keep schools open.

Four to 6 inches of snow had fallen by lunchtime Tuesday. Forecasts initially had called for 1 to 2 inches of snow with more further north and west.

Loudoun County Public Schools similarly apologized for not delaying or closing school. Schools are expected to dismiss on time this afternoon.

FCPS is one of the largest school districts in the country and the county is home to more than 1 million residents.

Super Pet Expo offers its first in-person event in Virginia since pandemic began

A Virginia pet expo running through Sunday is hoping to help those who recently got new pets to find what they need. Eric Udler, producer of the Super Pet Expo at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, said that there has been a significant increase in pets being adopted with so many people working from home.
