Motorcyclist, 27, dead in Rte. 29 crash in Columbia Saturday

WASHINGTON — A man was killed Saturday when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a guardrail on Route 29 in Howard County Saturday.

Police are continuing to investigate the deadly crash, which occured at approximately 5:35 a.m. in Columbia.

The driver, Maurice Malcolm Washington, 27, of Temple Hills, was pronounced dead at
the scene.  A passenger, Victoria Francis Griffin, 23, also of Temple Hills, was transported to the
University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. She is currently listed in serious but stable
condition.

Washington’s 2014 Suzuki GSX-R750 was traveling southbound on Route 29 near Rivers Edge Road
when it left the roadway and struck the guardrail in the center median, according to a release by Howard County Police.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that the motorcycle was traveling above the posted
speed limit at the time of the collision. No other vehicles were involved.

The crash shut down portions of Route 29 southbound and portions of 29 northbound for approximately three hours.
