Kansas City Royals win Game 1 of the World Series (Photos)

WASHINGTON — The Kansas City Royals outlasted the New York Mets 5-4 in 14 innings to take Game 1 of the World Series.

Eric Hosmer’s sacrifice fly brought home Alcides Escobar. Escobar had started the scoring with an inside-the-park home run on the first pitch by Matt Harvey five hours earlier and Kansas City’s Alex Gordon sent the game into extra innings with a solo homer in the 9th.    There were four lead changes and three ties.

Bartolo Colon becomes the oldest pitcher to lose a World Series game at 42.

Game 2 will be played Wednesday night.

MASN Sports’ Melewski on the passing of legendary pitcher Steve Dalkowski

The pitching of Steve Dalkowski made it to the big screen, but he never made it to the major leagues. Dalkowski, who pitched for the Baltimore Orioles’ minor leagues teams from 1957-1965, died April 19 at the age of 80. The Nuke LaLoosh character in the movie classic "Bull Durham" was loosely based on Dalkowski’s career.
