GW gym floor to feature D.C. landmarks

WASHINGTON – Several national landmarks will grace the gymnasium floor at the Charles E. Smith Center, where George Washington University’s volleyball and basketball teams play.

The new court design will feature the White House, the U.S. Capital and the Washington Monument with the GW logo at center court, the university announced Monday.

“Unveiling this spectacular new floor design today further emphasizes our campus setting in the heart of D.C.,” Athletic Director Patrick Nero said in a statement.

George Washington University’s athletics department released this image of the new design for the school’s basketball and volleyball court.

The court should be finished later this summer – the volleyball season begins in late August. In addition to women’s volleyball, both the men’s and women’s basketball teams will play on the new court.
