Woman fatally struck by car in Bethesda identified

WASHINGTON — A woman has died after she was hit by a car on River Road in Bethesda on Wednesday night.

According to Montgomery County police, the collision happened just before 7 p.m. in the 5500 block of River Road, between Dorset Avenue and Springfield Drive.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian, identified as 95-year-old Margaret Wydro, was crossing River Road in a marked crosswalk when she was hit.

Police say the vehicle involved in the incident stayed on the scene.

The circumstances of the collision remain under investigation. Anyone with information about what happened should call police at 240-773-6620.
