Rockville Pike reopens after water main break

WASHINGTON —Rockville Pike reopened shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday after a water main break that closed lanes for more than a day. Crews had been working to repair the break in a 74-year-old main on Rockville Pike near Cedar Lane that happened Tuesday afternoon. For most of Wednesday. one southbound lane and two northbound lanes got by on Rockville Pike between Jones Bridge Road and Pooks Hill Road. Early Thursday, Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission said that more road had to be cut out than initially expected after the 16-inch main broke on Tuesday afternoon. WSSC tweeted that a water station was set up for customers late Tuesday night at the Boy Scouts of America center located at Cedar Lane and Rockville Pike.
