False shooting report at Wolf Blitzer’s home

WASHINGTON – Authorities Saturday responded to a false report saying someone had been shot at CNN host Wolf Blitzer’s home in Bethesda, Md.

The Washington Post reports Montgomery County police received a message at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening saying that someone had been shot at Blitzer’s home near Congressional Country Club.

Officers set up a perimeter, but quickly determined it was a fraud. Blitzer reportedly was out of town.

The Post reports police are treating the incident as another case of “SWATing,” where a false alarm causes police to act.

A police spokesman tells the Post authorities are trying to determine the type of source the hoax stemmed from, but that the next steps in an investigation are not clear.
