Development plans flood Fairfax, Montgomery counties

Andrew Mollenbeck, wtop.com

WASHINGTON – The number of construction projects in the works is at the highest level in four years, according to The Washington Examiner.

Local developers have so anxiously pursued new projects that Fairfax County, for example, they can hardly keep up with the requests.

The county looked over 99 major plans last year, the paper reports. This year, it expects almost 120.

In Montgomery County, the building boom has been in housing.

“What we’re seeing in the county is more housing units, but we’re not seeing commercial construction,” says Councilman Marc Elrich, D-At Large.

“We’re able to accommodate more residents, but we’re not getting the commercial, and the commercial means you may not be getting the jobs,” he says.
