New Stafford High School opens, nearly a week late

WASHINGTON — It is the first day of classes for students at the new Stafford High School, who had nearly an extra week of summer vacation when their brand-new $66 million school wasn’t finished on time. A temporary occupancy permit has finally been obtained by the builder meaning the school can open, Fredericksburg.com reports. Other students in the county went back to school Sept. 8, the day after Labor Day. The new school was supposed to have been finished May 31, but the project ran into construction delays. Now, the question is: How will students make up for the lost school time? Stafford County schools spokeswoman Valerie Cottongim says the school year will not be extended, but no details have been released yet as to what steps will be taken.
