DC State Fair to feature pot-growing, family fun

WASHINGTON — If you’re just not ready to give up on summer quite yet, don’t miss the DC State Fair, which for the first time will feature a pot-growing contest.

The fair, in its sixth year, is from noon until 8 p.m. Saturday at the Old City Farm & Guild located at 925 Rhode Island Ave. NW.

The fair features, among other things, the first in the nation marijuana-growing contest. Fifty-six people registered to compete in the much-buzzed-about contest, called the Best Bud Contest.

Foodie and food attorney, Mary Beth Albright says the fair also features urban agriculture, including a seminar on edible landscaping.

Also, there’s plenty of food to sample from local bakers and candy makers, as well as fresh vegetables. But if you’re looking for some of the oddest veggies out there, there’s a weirdest and biggest vegetable contest.

Also, there is a pet look alike contest and a pet parade.
