Police arrest victim’s ex-boyfriend in Prince George’s County murder

WASHINGTON — The Prince George’s County Police department arrested 26-year-old Maurice Wigfall Jr. on Wednesday in connection to the May murder of his ex-girlfriend, Latiqua Cherry.

Cherry, 21, was found May 17 when her Oxon Hill home was on fire. The Prince George’s County Fire Department found her body suffering from severe burns. A medical examiner later found that Cherry died before the fire was set to the apartment due to trauma.

Wigfall has been charged with first- and second-degree murder and arson. He was already in custody at the Department of Corrections on an unrelated charge.
