Search resumes in Maine for 78-year-old hiker

MILLINOCKET, Maine (AP) — The search is continuing in Maine’s Baxter State Park for a 78-year-old hiker from Virginia who has been missing for three days.

The Portland Press Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1Q1kRfb ) that about 90 searchers set out Sunday to look for John Lyon of Dumfries, Virginia.

Park rangers say Lyon — and experienced hiker — left three companions at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday to hike ahead. They say he was last seen north of the peak of Mount Coe on the Coe-Marston trail loop.

A Maine Forest Service plane, game wardens, dog teams and volunteers have joined the search.
