Report: Md. ethics board investigates O’Malley’s purchases for mansion

WASHINGTON — A Maryland ethics board is investigating former governor Martin O’Malley after he got a sweet deal on some furniture that taxpayers paid for, The Baltimore Sun reports.

When O’Malley moved out of the governor’s mansion in January, he took $62,000 worth of furniture purchased with taxpayer money. His administration had declared the furniture to be junk, allowing O’Malley and his wife to buy it all for less than $10,000, The Sun reports.

The ethics commission will rule on whether he violated rules regarding state-owned property.

O’Malley is seeking the Democratic nomination for president.
