Timothy A. Holden, 64, was struck about 6:15 a.m. near Onondaga Road by a Chevrolet Malibu and died at the scene, Montgomery County police say.

“Preliminary investigation is that they were both heading east and the position of the vehicles is under investigation,” Montgomery County Police Captain David Falcinelli says.

Falcinelli says the driver, a 22-year-old man from Edgewood, is cooperating with police.

Falcinelli says this unfortunate collision is a grim reminder about road safety especially with county schools opening Monday.

“Watch the speed limit, stay off the phones, look for people in the crosswalks and just do good driving practices to make sure nothing like this repeats itself,” he says.

Cyclists also are supposed to follow the same traffic laws that cars do.

The investigation had closed the road between Goldsboro and Sangamore roads for several hours but the street reopened to traffic about 10:30 a.m.

Anyone with information about the fatal collision is asked to call investigators at 240-773-6620.
