WASHINGTON — Officials have confirmed a small plane crash in a wooded area of Prince William County, Virginia, near Manassas Regional Airport on Sunday morning. The pilot and sole occupant, Karyta Barnes, 50, of Alexandria, Va., was taken to Fairfax Inova Hospital for serious, but non-life threatening injuries, according to Virginia State police. No one on the ground was injured, and the plane did not strike any houses. Virginia State police said officers were called to the scene of a crash landing of a plane at 9:11 a.m. The plane had struck the trees and fell into a backyard of a residence in the 9400 block of Upper Mill Loop. Barnes, who was a student pilot, was flying a a Piper PA-28 aircraft and was practicing approaches at Manassas Regional Airport when the accident occurred, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. No one on the ground was injured, and the plane did not strike any houses.
