Road closures continue into Tuesday at Silver Spring water main break site

WASHINGTON — Road closures will extend into Tuesday as crews continue water main break repairs in Silver Spring , Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission officials said Saturday.

The extended closures are needed to fix a 16-inch water main that ruptured Wednesday on Colesville Road and Georgia Avenue. Approximately 5 million gallons of water were lost during the break. The pipe was 76 years old.

Two lanes will remain closed Monday, when WSSC crews are expected to complete most of the work. Final paving was expected to begin Tuesday.

Restoration to the sidewalk at Colesville Road and Georgia Avenue also is expected begin Tuesday, WSSC officials said.
