Man charged in uncle’s death in Md. field

WASHINGTON — Maryland State Police say a 31-year-old man is charged in his uncle’s death in a Wicomico County farm field.

Troopers say 62-year-old Lee Harcum’s body was found in a watermelon field on Monday. The farm is located along Snethen Church Road, near Grapevine Road.

William Harcum, Lee Harcum’s nephew, was taken into custody near the scene. He is charged with first and second-degree murder and assault.

Investigators say they believe William Harcum and Lee Harcum were picking watermelons in the field when they began to argue. The preliminary investigation indicates William Harcum used a blunt object to hit his uncle in the head, according to Maryland State Police.

Troopers say the investigation is ongoing.
